Winter Beauty

Snow has transformed Haywood Hall into a winter wonderland.

Before the holiday season ends, we wanted to share a photo of this year’s Christmas tree on the grounds of the North Carolina State Capitol.  This year’s tree was lit in memory of Mr. Marshall DeLancey Haywood, Jr. in honor of his service to the State Capitol Foundation.

If you are in downtown Raleigh tomorrow for the First Night Raleigh 2010 celebration, be sure to look for the tree on the south plaza of the State Capitol grounds.  The photo below shows the view from Fayetteville Street.

Happy Holidays

Thursday, December 17, will be the last day Haywood Hall is open for tours in 2009.  As we bring this year to a close, we would like to wish all of you a joyous holiday season.  We would also like to express our gratitude to our docents, the Friends of Haywood Hall, and all of the many volunteers who have donated their time to make 2009 such a successful year.

Haywood Hall will reopen for tours March 4, 2010.  During the winter months, we will still be available to meet with persons interested in renting the house and gardens for special events.  For more information, please call the resident manager (919-832-8357).

The Untravelled Road performs Christmas carols at our annual Holiday Open House.

Haywood Hall cordially invites you to attend our annual Holiday Open House, December 12 and 13, 2009.  We will be open each afternoon from 1:00 until 5:00.  The house has been beautifully decorated for the holidays by the Colonial Dames of Vance and Granville Counties.  Please visit and enjoy hot cider, light refreshments, and live music.  On Saturday, we will feature pianists Karen Sultan and Sarah Benbow while Sunday’s music will be provided by local band The Untravelled Road.  Our gift shop will be open, and docents will be available to share the history of Haywood Hall.

Do you know someone who was married at Haywood Hall?  Are you looking for a way to record the birth of a child or to honor the memory of a loved one?  Commemorative brick pavers for the gardens of Haywood Hall are a wonderful way to recognize a special event or person.

Brick pavers are available for $60.00.  Your brick can be engraved with one, two, or three lines of text.  Each line must contain no more than 17 characters (including spaces).  Please use the template below to create your message.  Print carefully and make sure you do not exceed the character allowance on each line.

Pavers are typically installed twice a year, in the spring and fall; however, we can send a special note to someone to notify them that a commemorative brick has been ordered in their honor.  Order during the first weeks of December, and we will be able to send a special notification for Christmas gifts.

For an order form, please contact the resident manager at 919-832-8357 or haywoodhall@bellsouth.net

Haywood Hall now has available Christmas cards featuring a holiday portrait of the historic house created by local artist Lynn Johnson Titchener. The cards measure 5×7 inches. The inside message reads “Peace & Joy.” Cards are available in packs of 10 for $10 and may be purchased in our gift shop on Thursdays from 10:30 until 1:30.   You may also order cards by contacting  Sheryl at 919-832-8357 or haywoodhall@bellsouth.net (Shipping charges will apply.)

Kaminski-Kane Wedding

Saturday marked the end of our 2009 wedding season, and the Kaminski-Kane wedding was the perfect finale.  The house and grounds were beautifully decorated, the food was wonderful, and the cake was a masterpiece.  But the best part of the evening was that everyone seemed so happy.  It was as though they didn’t want the night to end — the guest lingered for an hour after the bride and groom left!

Ritz-Evans Wedding

Following their wedding ceremony last Saturday at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Jay Ritz and Carmen Evans celebrated with a reception in the gardens of  Haywood Hall.  Although the weather was little cool for October in North Carolina, it was an absolutely beautiful day – just the kind of day Jay and Carmen deserved!  Best wishes to them as they begin their new life as husband and wife.
