North Carolina State Capitol Tree Honors Marshall Haywood

30 Dec

Before the holiday season ends, we wanted to share a photo of this year’s Christmas tree on the grounds of the North Carolina State Capitol.  This year’s tree was lit in memory of Mr. Marshall DeLancey Haywood, Jr. in honor of his service to the State Capitol Foundation.

If you are in downtown Raleigh tomorrow for the First Night Raleigh 2010 celebration, be sure to look for the tree on the south plaza of the State Capitol grounds.  The photo below shows the view from Fayetteville Street.

Commemorative Pavers for Haywood Hall & Gardens

30 Nov

Do you know someone who was married at Haywood Hall?  Are you looking for a way to record the birth of a child or to honor the memory of a loved one?  Commemorative brick pavers for the gardens of Haywood Hall are a wonderful way to recognize a special event or person.

Brick pavers are available for $60.00.  Your brick can be engraved with one, two, or three lines of text.  Each line must contain no more than 17 characters (including spaces).  Please use the template below to create your message.  Print carefully and make sure you do not exceed the character allowance on each line.

Pavers are typically installed twice a year, in the spring and fall; however, we can send a special note to someone to notify them that a commemorative brick has been ordered in their honor.  Order during the first weeks of December, and we will be able to send a special notification for Christmas gifts.

For an order form, please contact the resident manager at 919-832-8357 or

Join us for our 4th of July Celebration

28 Jun

The 4th of July is probably the biggest day of the year here at Haywood Hall.  We open our doors to the public and invite everyone to join us for games in the gardens, tours of the house, and special music by The Untravelled Road.  Rumor has it, we may even be joined by a fortune teller.

The event begins at 10:30 and ends at 2:30.  Parking is available on New Bern Place and in the state parking lot on Edenton Street.

Here are some little fellows from last year’s duck pond game.

Even the duck on patriotic at Haywood Hall.
